Faculty and staff may pick up bicycle bands for May campus parking
From: Sustainable Transportation
Faculty and staff who plan to commute to campus by bicycle during the month of May are encouraged to pick up a bicycle identification band from the Hokie Bike Hub. These bands help prevent active bicycles from being mistakenly impounded during the annual post-commencement abandoned bicycle removal process.
This program was introduced last year and successfully identified more than 60 bicycles that should remain on campus, reducing the number of bicycles mistakenly impounded.
Bicycle bands are available at the Hokie Bike Hub, located in the Transit Center at 1324 Perry Street.
- Through May 6, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Beginning May 7, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Hokie Bike Hub staff prefer to place the band directly on the bicycle, but employees do not need to bring their bicycle with them to a band.
A new band color will be used this year. Bands issued last year are no longer valid and should be removed to avoid confusion.
Faculty and staff picking up bands for multiple bicycles or on behalf of someone else should be prepared to provide:
- The bicycle owner’s name
- Email address
- Bicycle registration sticker number
- The campus location where the bicycle is most often parked.
Those who no longer work on campus or do not plan to have a bicycle on campus in May may disregard this notice.
