Mail Services winter break hours for departmental and student mail

Virginia Tech Mail Services will adjust student and departmental mail operations in December and early January. Please review the following details to plan ahead and avoid delivery issues during the break period.

Student mail

Important: Continue to submit tracking numbers for your packages into the Campus Resident Portal during the winter break to correct address issues and avoid delays and returns. Best practice is to send packages to the location where you will be staying when they arrive.

Owens Mail Room hours

  • Dec. 15 to 19, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Owens Mail Room will be open.
  • Dec. 22 and 23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Owens Mail Room will be open.
  • Dec. 24 to Jan. 1
    Owens Mail Room will be closed for winter break.
  • Jan. 2 to 9, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Owens Mail Room will be open on weekdays.

Package holding

  • Dec. 10 to Jan. 20
    Packages arriving during this period will be processed and held. No packages will be returned.
    Packages in lockers will remain available during this time.

Departmental mail

  • Dec. 10
    Mail routes will be altered to accommodate a department workshop. Your carrier can provide specific details for your department.
  • Dec. 22
    Full mail stops on this day.
  • Dec. 23
    Priority stops only on this day.
  • Dec. 24 to Jan. 1
    Mail Services will be closed.
  • Jan. 2
    Priority stops only on this day.

Departments that would like Mail Services to hold mail for specific dates outside the university closures should email departmentmail@vt.edu with their winter break hours.
