Mail Services operating with delays as storm recovery continues

East Coast operations for UPS, FedEx, Amazon, and USPS experienced trucking, processing, and delivery delays due to the weekend storm. These disruptions will continue to affect Virginia Tech Mail Services operations for several days.

Mail Services reopened Wednesday, Jan. 28, when the university resumed a normal schedule. As staff work to restore full services, please keep the following information in mind:

• Virginia Tech Facilities continues storm cleanup efforts across campus. Subfreezing temperatures over the next several days may slow progress.
• The Owens Hall mailroom is currently the only location available for resident mail and package pickup. Locker areas will reopen once they are cleared, inspected, and deemed safe.
• Students should submit all tracking numbers in the Campus Resident Portal to assist with address verification and package processing.
• Delays are expected for standard freight items as shipments arrive late and staff work through a backlog caused by the storm.
• Students are encouraged to pick up mail and packages as quickly as possible at Owens Hall to create space for incoming freight and help reduce delays.
• Questions or concerns may be emailed to studentpackage@vt.edu. Staff will respond as quickly as possible.
• Mail Services follows all university closures and weather-related delays.

University departments and buildings

Department Mail operations also resumed Wednesday, Jan. 28. Access to parking lots, sidewalks, and stairs continues to improve, and deliveries will be made as conditions allow.

Carrier delays affecting UPS, FedEx, Amazon, and USPS are expected to impact Mail Services operations for several days. The primary focus will remain on critical stops supporting essential university operations, as staff access and safety permit.
