2026-27 academic year permit sales and reminders for students

Beginning this fall, Virginia Tech will transition to a new virtual parking permit system for campus parking. Physical permits will no longer be issued. Instead, your license plate will serve as your parking permit. This update supports Parking Services’ goals of modernization, efficiency, sustainability, and improved customer experience.
Student parking permits for the 2026-27 academic year will be available for purchase beginning the second week of August.
How to purchase a permit
Visit the Parking Services website and log in to the Parking Portal using your Virginia Tech credentials.
- Select the permit option that applies to you.
- Enter your vehicle and license plate information carefully.
- Complete your purchase.
- Receive confirmation by email.
Please ensure all vehicle information is accurate and up to date. Alerts will be generated for invalid or missing permits. Temporary plates as well as rental vehicles must be registered, and the vehicle's license plate must face the drive lane when parked. Incorrect information, unregistered, or unreadable license plates may result in a citation.
Permits for sale will include full year, fall semester, spring semester, and monthly options for on-campus residents, Oak Lane residents, commuter students, and graduate students. Additionally, remote lot and carpool permits are available for off-campus students.
Blacksburg campus permit pricing
Prices for permits on the Blacksburg campus and Oak Lane Resident Passes are:
- Full year: $585
- Fall semester: $351
- Spring semester: $410
- Monthly: $88
Prices for commuter/graduate student passes are:
- Full year: $415
- Fall semester: $249
- Spring semester: $291
- Monthly: $62
- Remote: $42
- Carpool year: $291
- Carpool fall: $174
- Carpool spring: $203
A vehicle's license plate must face the drive lane in order to be scanned. Citations may be issued if a plate is not readable or registered to a valid permit. Vehicles can be linked to an active permit through the Parking Portal. Temporary plates must be registered. Rental vehicles must be added and removed. Incorrect information may result in citations.
Academic Building One student parking
Graduate students at Academic Building One may purchase either an annual or monthly parking permit for the 2026–27 academic year.
- Annual permit: $1,920
- Monthly permit: $200
Students who do not purchase a permit may also park on a daily basis by pulling a ticket upon entry to the parking garage and paying by credit card upon exit.
Please note: Parking permits are campus-specific and are not interchangeable between Blacksburg and Alexandria. Students should purchase the permit that corresponds to the campus where they park regularly.
Cashless parking services operations
Parking Services will continue moving toward a cashless operation. Beginning this summer:
- Cash payments will no longer be accepted
- Checks will no longer be accepted
Customers may continue using approved electronic payment methods online, in the Parking Portal, and through supported payment platforms. Credit card payments will still be accepted in the Parking Services office.
ParkMobile changes
ParkMobile will continue to be available in select areas for hourly or short-term parking. ParkMobile zones will be limited primarily to the peripheral lots of the Blacksburg campus, and each approved lot will have its own unique zone number/code and signed at entrance.
Students should always review lot signage and confirm they are parked in the correct ParkMobile area before submitting payment.
ParkMobile payment will not be recognized outside of designated ParkMobile areas. Parking in non-ParkMobile permit areas without the proper permit may result in enforcement action.
