Students can explore the Center for the Arts galleries for free

From: Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech

Looking for something different to do between classes? Stop by the Center for the Arts to explore “Medicine Monster,” a free exhibition by internationally recognized artist Guadalupe Maravilla.

Through sculpture, sound, and hand-painted retablos, Maravilla explores migration, trauma, illness, and healing, drawing on his own experiences migrating from El Salvador to the United States as a child and later surviving cancer. The exhibition includes a new “Disease Thrower” sculpture commissioned by the Center for the Arts that functions as both artwork and healing instrument.

“Medicine Monster” is on view through Nov. 21. Admission is always free, and the galleries are open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
