Be a good steward of Virginia Tech’s resources

From: The Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance

Corporate Compliance and Ethics Week is November 5-11, 2023, and an opportunity to spotlight compliance and ethics at Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech is committed to the highest standards of moral, legal, and ethical behavior by its employees and administrators. As university employees we each have a responsibility for the stewardship of the university’s resources and ensuring that those resources are used properly.

Did you know this commitment and expectations applies to all of us?

This commitment and expectations of the university community is set forth in university Policy No. 1040. The expectation for high standards of ethics and integrity is also incorporated in other policies and codes that apply to the campus and often highlighted in speeches by campus leaders.

Did you know an attitude can help prevent fraud, waste, and abuse?

Setting a proper attitude toward compliance with laws, rules, regulations, and policies sends the message that fraud, waste, or abuse will not be tolerated in our community or by those with whom we engage.

Did you know the unethical behavior of just one campus community member can detract from the outstanding contributions of thousands?

To protect the university, we are all obligated to ensure that the university’s resources are used for authorized purposes and to report any concerns that suggest fraud, waste, or abuse of those resources.

Did you know there is protection from retaliation?

Retaliation against any individual who makes a good faith report of suspected misconduct or participated in an inquiry or investigation is strictly prohibited.
