Apply now: Early Identification Program at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is now accepting applications for its 2026-27 Early Identification Program, an initiative that helps promising undergraduates prepare for and become competitive applicants for medical school. The deadline for applications is Feb. 1, 2026.

Students from Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, the commonwealth’s two land-grant universities, as well as those from James Madison University, Old Dominion University, and William & Mary can apply.

Included in the program is:

  • Research experience with world-renowned scientists
  • Clinical shadowing with experienced physicians
  • Preparation and tutoring for the MCAT medical school entrance exam
  • One-on-one application counseling 
  • Room and board in downtown Roanoke 
  • A stipend for each summer

How to become part of the program

Undergraduate students who are interested in participating in the program should submit a completed application for consideration. A completed application includes the following:

  • A submitted online application
  • An unofficial copy of their academic transcripts
  • Two professional references, including one from a science faculty member or pre-health advisor
