Faculty, staff, students, and visitors on the Blacksburg campus now have access to two new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations located on level 1 of the Perry Street Parking Garage (1330 Perry Street). Each charging station has two plugs, for a total capacity of four vehicles.

These level two ChargePoint charging stations can deliver a power output of approximately 4.2 kilowatts per hour. To use the chargers, drivers must download the ChargePoint mobile app and sign up for a free account. For help getting started, refer to this quick instructional video.

How to Access EV Charging Stations
Charging spaces are available to vehicles that are actively charging with any valid Virginia Tech parking permit, except remote lot permits, or by paying through the ParkMobile app.

Charging Rates for the Blacksburg Campus

  • $1 flat fee plus $0.25 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) while charging

  • Once charging is complete, a $2 per hour idle fee applies if the vehicle is not moved within 15 minutes

Fees support operational and administrative costs. Rates are subject to change.

Other EV Charging Locations on the Blacksburg Campus

  • Three stations in the Squires Lot (corner of College Avenue and Otey Street)

  • One station at Fleet Services (255 Sterrett Drive)

Please note: One of the charging station spaces in the Squires Lot is designated as an accessible space and may only be used by vehicles displaying a valid ADA placard or license plate, along with a Virginia Tech permit or ParkMobile payment.
