Earth Week 2023 will run from April 17-22 and the Virginia Tech community is invited to participate in a wide range of activities across campus.

Some of the Virginia Tech Earth Week 2023 activities sponsored by the Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities include:

Monday, April 17

Virginia Tech Bee Day: Join some of the members of Virginia Tech's Bee Campus committee to extend the pollinator habitat at Hillcrest Hall. The first phase of this lavender planting was put in one year ago as an Earth Week 2022 event. For Earth Week 2023, more lavender and native flowers will be planted to provide even more habitat for pollinators. Six new bee box locations on campus will also be unveiled at this time.

Time: 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Location: The green space between Hillcrest and Wallace Halls, next to the parking lot

Tuesday, April 18

Sustainable Fashion Show: The Office of Sustainability waste team interns are collaborating with Students for Sustainable Practice and the Virginia Tech Environmental Coalition to highlight sustainable fashion practices.

Time: 7 - 9 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
Location: Squires Student Center, Haymarket Theater

Wednesday, April 19

Bike to Campus Day: Sustainable Transportation encourages the Virginia Tech community to commute via bicycle. They will have three pit stops across campus with free food, swag, and other resources. Stop by on the way to class.

Time: 7:30 - 10:30 a.m.
Location: Squires Plaza, Drillfield, Duck Pond Gazebo

Climate Action Commitment Day: Join the Office of Sustainability and many experts from across campus to learn more about Virginia Tech's Climate Action Commitment. There will be different interactive presentations every 30 minutes focused on each of the goals of the Climate Action Commitment.

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location: Squires Student Center, Brush Mountain B

Thursday, April 20

Ecological Tour of the Old Growth Forest Adjacent to Lane Stadium: Did you know that some of the trees in the old growth forest adjacent to Lane Stadium are over 300 years old? John R. Seiler, the Hon. and Mrs. Shelton H. Short Jr. Professor of Forestry in the College of Natural Resources and Environment, will be giving a walking tour through the old growth forest adjacent to Lane Stadium located near the south end of campus.

Time: 4 - 5 p.m.
Location: Meet at the entrance of the woods on Clay St. SE (nearest the tennis courts, also next to VT Engage building)

Friday, April 21

Goodwin Hall Waste Audit: Want to know what portion of waste generated by building occupants is diverted from landfills or what portion of recycling is contaminated? Join the Office of Energy Management as they survey and analyze the waste stream at Goodwin Hall.

Time: 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
Location: Goodwin Hall

Saturday, April 22

Arbor Day Celebration: Celebrate Earth Day by planting trees. Meet at 10 a.m. in the Cranwell Parking Lot on the northeast side of the old growth forest adjacent to Lane Stadium.

Time: 10:00 a.m. - noon
