In preparation for the installation of two elevator towers located in the North Academic District, one staircase joining Cowgill Steps and a portion of the pathway underneath the Derring Hall overhang will be temporarily closed beginning Feb. 23.

These elevator towers are the first priority in a series of mobility and accessibility capital projects occurring on Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus that will improve mobility, access, inclusion, and collaboration in some of the campus’ most heavily traversed areas.

Alternative pedestrian pathways will be available on the Cowgill Steps and the remainder of the pathway underneath the Derring Hall overhang.

Accessible pathways will be available along Perry Street and through Bishop-Favrao, Cowgill, and Derring Halls via elevators.

Pedestrians may utilize the Campus Closures Map to assist with navigation.

Questions may be directed to vtfacilities@vt.edu

The staircase leading to the Cowgill Steps from Derring Hall will be temporarily closed. The pathway underneath the Derring Hall overhang will also be temporarily closed from the building entrance toward the Cowgill Steps. The remainder of the pathway will remain open.
Accessible routes during construction will be available along Perry Street and through the elevators available in Bishop-Favrao, Cowgill, and Derring Halls.
