Mail Services facing delays due to high package volume

From: Virginia Tech Mail Services

At the start of each academic year, the influx of packages we receive is substantial. We’re committed to processing and delivering your packages as swiftly as possible, but we need your help to keep everything running smoothly. By following the guidelines below, you can play a key role in ensuring that your mail and packages are delivered promptly.

How you can help:

  • Stay informed: We’re working diligently to manage the high volume of packages. You will receive a pick-up email as soon as your items are ready for collection. Your understanding and cooperation during this busy time is greatly appreciated.

  • Track your packages: Use the Campus Resident Portal to track your packages. The portal provides up-to-date information on processed packages, including pick-up availability, location, tracking number, and package condition. Detailed instructions on using the portal are available here.

  • Submit a Standard Package Form: As soon as you receive a tracking number for your delivery, submit a Standard Package Form on the Campus Resident Portal. This will link the package to you before it arrives, helping us process it more quickly.

  • Prioritize essential deliveries: If you’re expecting time-sensitive items, such as medications or important documents, submit a High-Priority Package Form through the Campus Resident Portal. This will ensure that these items are processed with extra attention. Please remember that this form is reserved for truly high-priority items. Misuse of this form may result in a student conduct referral.

  • Pick up promptly: Once you receive a pick-up email, please retrieve your packages from the student lockers and Owens Mailroom as soon as possible. Prompt pick-up allows us to process and make space for new deliveries. Remember to bring your Hokie Passport when picking up mail and packages at Owens Mailroom.

  • Claim your packages: Packages are held for seven days. If not collected within this timeframe, they will be returned to the sender to make room for new deliveries.

  • Address your mail correctly: Properly addressed mail and packages are less likely to encounter delays. Please use the following format:

                Address Format:
                [First Name] [Last Name]
                [Street Address], [Room Number]
                Blacksburg, VA 24061

You can find the correct format for your residence hall address here.

For inquiries: If you have any questions about your packages, please contact us at studentpackage@vt.edu and include your tracking number for faster assistance.
