Updated Virginia Tech Fleet Services rates take effect May 16

Virginia Tech Fleet Services will implement updated vehicle rental rates effective May 16. Updated rate information is available here.

As part of the changes, Fleet Services will transition from separate federal and non-federal rates to a single rate for each vehicle classification. For federally funded sponsored projects, the new rates will no longer be subject to overhead charges, which may result in cost savings for many projects.

The new daily rates will apply to any reservation dates beginning May 16. Current permanently assigned (PA) vehicle rates will remain in effect through the end of the current leasing year on June 30, 2025. The updated rates will begin with the new leasing year on July 1. 

Rate adjustments reflect rising operational costs since the last rate update in 2023, including multiple state compensation and fringe benefit increases, higher parts prices due to inflation, and increased vehicle purchase costs.

Fleet Services manages a rental fleet of approximately 150 state vehicles —including cars, trucks, vans, and buses — available for official university business by employees and students.
