Pedestrian impacts: North Academic District elevator tower utility work

From: The Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities

To accommodate utility work associated with a pair of elevator towers being installed in the North Academic District, a portion of the Cowgill steps leading to the G. Burke Johnston Student Center will be temporarily closed from approximately Monday, April 17 - Friday, Aug. 11.

These elevator towers are the first priority in a series of mobility and accessibility capital projects occurring on Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus that will improve mobility, access, inclusion, and collaboration in some of the campus’ most heavily traversed areas.

During the utility work, alternative pedestrian pathways will be available near Hancock Hall, through Cowgill Hall, and along the G. Burke Johnston Student Center.

Accessible routes will not be impacted.
