Registration open for We Impact Virginia summit on Oct. 27
From: Outreach and International Affairs
Registration is open for the We Impact Virginia Summit on Oct. 27 at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon.
The 2026 summit comes to Southwest Virginia at a time when the region has demonstrated what it means to move forward together. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, communities, organizations, businesses, institutions, and neighbors united to rebuild roads, homes, and infrastructure while strengthening partnerships across the region.
This year’s summit theme, “Moving Forward Together,” is rooted in that spirit of resilience and the belief that meaningful progress happens through collaboration and service.
The summit welcomes anyone seeking personal or professional growth. Speakers will share stories of success and offer practical tools for building confidence and influence in all aspects of life.
Visit the We Impact Virginia website to explore the speaker lineup and register. Registration closes Oct. 20.
Hokie Highlight explores agriculture, sustainability
This year’s Hokie Highlight features Sarah Morton, Jennifer S. Friedel, and Laci Hicks, three women at different stages of their careers who work in agriculture and have strong ties to Virginia Tech through education and service.
The panel will explore the economics and laws shaping agriculture, the contributions women are making to the field, and ways producers can incorporate sustainable practices while remaining economically viable.
Moderator Alex Veatch, a part owner of a farm, also will invite the panelists to discuss emerging trends in agriculture and sustainability.
Student scholarships available
Undergraduate students may apply for a scholarship covering the summit registration fee. Students who have already registered remain eligible to apply.
Recipients will be selected based on the quality of their responses and their alignment with the core values and goals of We Impact Virginia. Applications close Oct. 2. Lodging, mileage, and other travel expenses are not included.
We Impact Virginia is a collaboration among Virginia Tech’s Commonwealth Campus Centers in Abingdon, Newport News, Richmond, and Roanoke, as well as the Reynolds Homestead in Patrick County.
