Fall 2026 Communities of Practice

From: Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) invites Virginia Tech educators and professionals to join a Community of Practice (CoP). These welcoming communities provide opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from colleagues, discuss teaching challenges, and discover practical strategies that support student learning.

Attend every meeting or join whenever your schedule allows. Sign up for the CoP that fits your interests to receive the meeting link or location before the next gathering.

Global Learning and Engagement Community of Practice

Bring global perspectives into teaching, research, and professional practice.

Are you exploring ways to integrate global learning into your courses, research, advising, or campus initiatives? Are you already engaging students in global learning and looking for fresh ideas? Join colleagues from across Virginia Tech who are preparing students to participate thoughtfully in an interconnected world.

Co-hosted by CETL and the Global Education Office (GEO), this community welcomes faculty, academic advisors, and professionals supporting global engagement at the college or program level. Each meeting features a different topic, with opportunities to learn from guest speakers and share strategies with peers.

GTA Instructor of Record Community of Practice

Co-hosted by the Graduate School and CETL, this community offers GTAs a supportive universitywide space to discuss effective teaching, common challenges, and shared experiences. The CoP is open to GTAs with full teaching responsibility for a course and to GTAs with significant course responsibilities under the supervision of a faculty instructor of record.

Each meeting explores a different topic through guest presentations and peer discussion focused on effective teaching as a GTA instructor of record.

Large Course Community of Practice

Virginia Tech is known for excellence in teaching and learning in large classes. The Large Course CoP brings faculty together to explore the concerns, challenges, and possibilities of student learning in large courses.

Meetings reflect the social nature of learning and the teaching expertise across the Virginia Tech community. Each month, faculty discuss a topic of shared interest and hear demonstrations from colleagues about how they address these concerns in their own courses.

Sign up today for a Fall 2026 Community of Practice and be part of Virginia Tech’s culture of collaborative teaching and learning. Email teaching@vt.edu with any questions.
