What is the Undergraduate Student Senate (USS)?

The USS is the official representative body for all undergraduate students, charged with enhancing and improving your overall experience at Virginia Tech. Some ways USS makes an impact on campus:

  • Represent your voice - Throughout the university shared governance system, members of USS represent your voice on university committees and commissions, meet with university officials, contribute to policy recommendations and changes, and vote on wider university issues.
  • Allocate your student fees - Members of USS make funding decisions on how a portion of your student activity fees fund undergraduate clubs and organizations.
  • Enhance your student experience – Members of USS work directly with campus partners to champion initiatives, projects, or events that create a positive impact and enhance your experience at VT.
  • Create school spirit while helping Hokies - USS established the Hokie Effect Program, which designs and sells spirit shirts for sporting events. These shirts encourage school spirit and support funding for student-athlete initiatives and the Student Emergency Fund.
  • Meet with legislators - Members of the USS are known for advocating on state and federal levels by meeting with legislators in Washington D.C. and Richmond each year.

After applications close, candidates will be notified of their candidacy status by Sept. 19.  All undergraduate students can vote for their preferred candidates Sept. 21-27, with winners announced Oct. 5. Information and applications can be accessed on the election website.
