Volunteers needed for Practice Run Orientation
From: New Student and Family Programs
New Student and Family Programs is seeking faculty and staff volunteers to participate in our annual Practice Run Orientation.
Practice Run Orientation 2026 will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 18. This day-long program serves as a full run-through of Orientation, with volunteers stepping into the role of “students” or “family members” to help our team prepare for the incoming class experience.
We encourage participants to attend the full day, as it is important for our team to run the program in real time with a consistent group. However, we understand that competing priorities may arise.
The day begins at the Center for the Arts and travels through multiple campus locations, concluding at McComas Hall. An optional Blacksburg Transit ride will return participants to the Newman Library area. The campus tour is divided into shorter segments with breaks in air-conditioned spaces. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Practice Run Orientation is a great opportunity if you:
- Want to experience firsthand what the optional in-person Orientation program is like
- Are new to the university and want to learn more about Virginia Tech and life as a Hokie
- Have been at Virginia Tech for some time and want to see what’s new
- Are interested in supporting student success by helping our team refine the Orientation experience
- Enjoy engaging with our student Orientation Leaders and fellow colleagues across campus
Join us in helping create a welcoming and seamless Orientation experience for our newest Hokies. Register today.
