New options to create accessible PDF files

From: Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies

TLOS is offering three new options to create accessible files using PREP, the PDF Remediation Platform, including quick AI-assisted and paid options to remediate PDF files. The new dashboard, available via Virginia Tech single sign-on (SSO), includes four service options:

  1. PREP PDF Remediation Self-Service Platform
    • Existing users who have an active PREP license can access the platform from the dashboard.
    • For users without an assigned PREP license, this card will be inactive. To gain access, new users must request access via the link on the card.
  2. AI-Powered Remediation
This advanced tool remediates text-based PDF files. Note that this platform is not effective for documents with tables, complex charts, images, handwritten content, and mathematical equations or formulas. Once a user uploads and submits their PDF, the process takes approximately 2-3 minutes, and then the user can download their remediated file.
  3. Assigned PDF Remediation
This service is for users with pre-approved TLOS-assigned PDF remediation credits. Users interested in this service start by requesting a TLOS consultation. After obtaining approval for TLOS-funded remediation, users can submit a complex PDF file for remediation by the vendor, Continual Engine. The remediated file will then be returned to the user via email.
  4. Fee-Based Remediation Services
To request this service, users submit PDF files to Continual Engine and receive an emailed quote within 1–2 business days. After obtaining funding approval through HokieMart, the user authorizes the work by replying to the emailed quote with a purchase order number or transaction ID. Continual Engine then remediates the documents, sends an invoice to the requesting department, and returns the remediated files to the requester via email.
