Free online series aims to help farms thrive for generations

From: Outreach and International Affairs

Jennifer Friedel, associate professor of practice in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics and director of Virginia’s Land Use-Value Assessment Program, will lead a free virtual session from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on April 22, titled “Preparing Your Farm and Land to Outlive You: Insights from a Lawyer and a Farmer.”

Friedel will combine legal expertise with hands-on farming experience to share practical strategies for long-term farm and land planning. Drawing from her work — and her experience co-owning and operating Point Pleasant Farm in Bland County — she will share realistic steps to help keep farms viable for future generations.

Hosted by the Virginia Tech Southwest Center and the Reynolds Homestead, this session will launch a virtual training series focused on agricultural law and land management. Upcoming topics will include lease agreements, fencing laws, and other essential guidance for farmers and landowners.

The session is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
