Exhibitors wanted: Hokie for a Day field trips

From: Center for Educational Networks and Impacts

Exhibitors of all disciplines are invited to share brief, engaging, kid-friendly tabletop experiences for fifth graders at Hokie for a Day field trips.

Hokie for a Day offers fifth grade students a unique opportunity to experience college life. The visit includes a discussion of college majors, a conversation about how to get to college, an expo with hands-on academic experiences from Virginia Tech faculty and students, lunch at an on-campus dining hall, and a chat with a student athlete.

The CENI team will take care of the logistics for the kids - technology, tables, chairs, buses, food, youth protection, chaperone communications, and image permissions - so you can focus on the Virginia Tech work you will share.

Who: Student clubs, grant-funded projects, outreach classes, labs, faculty, and researchers are invited to present. Hokie for a Day exhibits may be part of a grant's Broader Impacts.

What: Experiences should be about six minutes long, and will be repeated five or six times for new groups of about ten learners. Your table will be one of several at the expo. Small groups will rotate through the tables in seven-minute timeslots.

When: Choose a Wednesday between Feb. 25 and April 29. Expos are between 10 a.m. and noon.

Where: Most expos are at the Balcony Lobby (third floor lobby, facing Alumni Mall) of the Center for the Arts, Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus

How: Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis until all slots are filled, but please apply by Feb. 20. Earlier proposals are more likely to be accepted.
