New University IT Strategic Plan and upcoming town hall sessions

The new IT Strategic Plan for Virginia Tech is now available. The division is hosting a series of town hall discussions to help the university community engage with the plan and ask questions. 

The strategic plan is the result of an intensive 10-month process that began in September 2024. The process began with the collection and analysis of extensive feedback from focus groups and numerous individual interviews with stakeholders across Virginia Tech. This intake led to the formation of several exploratory committees that built out the major portions of the plan. An intensive period of revision and vetting across the university followed, with the plan gaining final approval on July 10, 2025. The plan is organized around five themes:

1. Enable Virginia Tech’s global impact in teaching, research, and outreach.
2. Modernize administrative applications, processes, and data platforms.
3. Improve the IT customer experience.
4. Improve capabilities to use, manage, and protect data.
5. Strengthen technology and data governance.

The plan includes an operational roadmap that goes into greater detail on the specific projects and initiatives that are on the horizon for the upcoming cycle. The plan will be revised every 18-24 months to update the operational roadmaps.

• Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Kelly Hall, Room 310 (remote join link)
