Get 'Hooked In' to building a portfolio that opens doors
RSVP for the Nov. 20 session—wrapping up our first year of career conversations
From: Human Resources
As we close out the first year of Hooked In sessions, join us on Thursday, November 20 at 2 p.m. for our next conversation of the series: "Beyond the Resume: Building a Portfolio That Opens Doors."
Resumes tell hiring managers what professionals have done, but what if potential employees could actually show them? In this interactive session, discover how a well-crafted portfolio can transform a professional narrative from a list of duties and experience into compelling evidence of capability and skill.
Whether they work in IT, communications, project management, administration, or any role where demonstrating impact matters, participants will learn how to curate work samples, case studies, and accomplishments that make expertise visible.
The same portfolio pieces created for employment can strengthen performance reviews, support internal promotion applications, and enhance a LinkedIn presence—all while making annual documentation easier.
Participants will leave with a personalized action plan and a portfolio piece drafted using the CARS framework (Challenge, Action, Result, Strengths).
This session is open to all employees and is particularly valuable to A/P faculty, staff, and those considering career advancement. Register through the PageUp LMS to attend.
Hooked In is part of My Career Stream, a collection of resources from Human Resources' Talent Development team designed to help faculty and staff navigate their career path with intention and reach their career goals at Virginia Tech. These one-hour Zoom conversations featuring experts on university subject matter are held every other month. Past sessions are available to view on-demand through PageUp LMS.
