University Policy Updates: June to August 2025

The following university policies were updated between June to August 2025. Both substantive and technical updates are included below. Note: The most recent updates to a posted policy can be found at the end of that policy under “Approvals and Revisions.” Please read to learn more.

Advancement

Policy 12005 – Policy on Commemorative Tributes: This policy was revised to reflect the current membership of the Commemorative Tributes Committee to comply with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion resolution passed by the Board of Visitors on March 25, 2025.

Policy 12015 – Policy on External Awards: This policy was modified to reflect the current membership of the External Awards Committee to comply with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion resolution passed by the Board of Visitors on March 25, 2025.

Auxiliary and Business Services

Policy 5120 – Special Use (SU) Parking Passes for Student Leaders: This policy was revised to update eligible student leader positions and expand responsibility for maintaining the list of eligible student position holders to include designee of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Chief of the Virginia Tech Police Department or designee.

Campus-wide

Policy 1030 — Social Media Policy: This policy was revised to reflect updates to organization titles.

Policy 3350 – Charter for the Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance: This policy was revised to update titles and organizational structure.

Human Resources

Policy 4335 – Employee Awards and Recognition Programs: This policy was revised to remove reference to diversity as an objective for awards programs in Section 2.0 to comply with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion resolution passed by the Board of Visitors on March 25, 2025.

Student Affairs

Policy 8011 – Establishing and Maintaining a University Student Life Program (USLP): This policy was modified to eliminate examples of organizations in Section 2.0 to avoid emphasis on identity rather than functionality.
