New Student Teams Benefit provides students up to 5 Microsoft Teams sites
Review and claim any existing Teams sites you wish to keep by Sept. 30.
From: Division of Information Technology
As announced in a previous message, each Virginia Tech student is provided the option to manage up to five Teams sites within their student Microsoft 365 account. Each Teams site may contain up to one gigabyte (1 GB) of data. This is known as the “Student Teams Benefit.”
Students can manage their Teams using the MyCAT Tool, at https://mycat.ccs.vt.edu.
Claim existing Teams you wish to keep by Sept. 30
Students who had unclaimed Teams sites under their account as of June 2 (when access to unclaimed Teams was initially removed) may now review and claim up to five of these sites to keep under their account.
Instructions on viewing and claiming these sites are located in this 4Help article.
All remaining unclaimed Teams sites — those that have not been actively claimed by a student or department — will be deleted on Oct. 1, 2025. Note that students may not reclaim Teams sites that have already been transferred to a department, but if needed, may be added to those sites as a member.
Request new Teams or remove existing Teams
Students with fewer than five claimed Teams may create new 1 GB Teams sites until they reach their limit of five. New Teams are created in MyCAT. Instructions are here.
You may also remove Teams sites you no longer need, thus freeing up a slot to create new Teams sites in the future, by deleting the site, or releasing the team from its slot in MyCAT.
