Turning Point USA at Virginia Tech sponsored event Wednesday to impact campus parking, activity
An event hosted by Turning Point USA at Virginia Tech, a registered student organization at the university, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Burruss Hall Auditorium.
Doors to the event will open at 5 p.m.
Tickets are required to attend the event; however, access is not guaranteed. To register for tickets, visit the Turning Point USA website. Registration for tickets will continue through 4 p.m. Sept. 24 or until the venue is at capacity at which point registration will turn to a waitlist.
Registered Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff will be admitted to event first on a first come, first served basis. If seats remain, event organizers will admit others from the broader community until the auditorium is full.
Ticket holders must present identification. The ticket holder name and identification must match. Guests may not bring cameras or bags, backpacks, or purses into the event. Magnetometers will be in use. Please plan accordingly.
Traffic and parking
In anticipation of a heavy pedestrian presence, the north side of Drillfield Drive (Burruss Hall side) will be closed to normal traffic at 3 p.m. Vehicles parked in that area will be allowed to exit, but no new parking will be permitted. The road will remain closed until 9 p.m. Drivers are encouraged to plan an alternate route of travel during this time. The closure will not impact pedestrian routes.
To park on campus, a valid university parking permit must be displayed at all times. Campus visitors may park in designated Faculty and Staff or student lots and pay a parking fee using the ParkMoble App. Those attending the Burruss Hall event are encouraged to park in the Perry Street Garage. For more information see the parking lot map or visit parking.vt.edu. Please plan accordingly.
Public safety measures
Burruss Hall Auditorium has a seating capacity of just under 3,000 guests. Event attendees are expected to follow all security protocols, including no bag and no camera policies, magnetometer screening, and instruction from event ushers, security staff, and Virginia Tech police. Virginia law prohibits the open or concealed carry of firearms on college campuses. The Virginia Tech Police Department reminds everyone to report all crime and suspicious activity or person(s) anywhere on campus immediately to the Virginia Tech Police Department by calling 540-382-4343 or by dialing 911. Anonymous tips can be reported online.
Campus operations will proceed as normal on Wednesday. However, traffic and parking may be impacted due to event attendance. Please plan accordingly.
