Free food 101: A student's guide to The Market's Open Hours

The Market's Open Market Hours are for current Virginia Tech students who need food support — even temporarily. The program helps students meet their nutritional needs through free weekly access to groceries on a drop-in basis. All a student has to do is bring their Hokie Passport to The Market’s storefront at the University Mall.

Fall 2025 Open Market Hours

  • Thursdays: 1 - 6 p.m. 
  • Fridays: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Fall 2025 Open Market Hours are from Aug. 28 to Dec. 12.

Please note: While fresh produce and meat are often available, Open Market Hours only guarantees non-perishable items at this time.

Where is The Market located? 

The Market is located at 801 University City Blvd, Blacksburg, VA 24060, next to the Himalayan Curry Cafe.

Any current Virginia Tech student who needs food support can automatically utilize The Market’s Open Market Hours on a drop-in basis; all they need to do is bring their student ID and a bag.
