The Elder Care Symposium returns with multiple learning sessions for employees who may be caregivers and/or planning for their future. Hosted by Hokie Wellness and co-sponsor Warm Hearth Village, the symposium will be Sept. 10 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. via Zoom, and in person at the North End Center.
The day will feature a keynote address presented by Katalin Parti, associate professor of sociology, and Pamela Teaster, professor of human development and family science and director of the Virginia Tech Center for Gerontology, about PROS: Performances to Reduce Online Scams.
Some other speakers include Janet Brennend, ombudsman with the New River Valley (NRV) Agency on Aging; Joanna Culligan, interim director for the Engagement Center for Creative Aging; and Ashleigh Boquist, Virginia Tech alum and personal trainer at Warm Hearth Village.
Exhibitors including co-sponsor, Warm Hearth Village, Virginia Cooperative Extension, Blacksburg Pharmacy (who will be providing vaccinations), Blacksburg Medical Supply, NRV Aging in Community, AARP Chapter #2613, and more will be on hand providing valuable information to attendees.
Registration for the symposium and breakout sessions is required by Aug. 29. Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees.
