Skipper to fire during multiple events this week
From: Corps of Cadets
In support of campuswide activities and maintenance, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets cannon, Skipper, will fire during multiple events this week.
The first event will occur on Wednesday, Aug. 20, on Upper Quad. During maintenance and testing, Skipper will fire multiple times using both black power and blank primer ammunition. All firing will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The primer shots may resemble the sound of small caliber gunfire while the three black powder shots will be much louder.
On Thursday and Friday, Skipper will fire three times each day during practice for the New Cadet Parade on the Drillfield. On Aug. 21, the shots will occur between 3:30 and 4:45 p.m. and on Aug. 22, the shots will occur between 4 and 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, in celebration of the Class of 2029, Skipper will fire three times during the New Cadet Parade between 10 and 11 a.m. The three shots will occur when the cadets reach the Drillfield, at the first note of the national anthem, and at the first note of Tech Triumph. The New Cadet Parade is open to the public.
