Next steps for Microsoft Copilot at Virginia Tech

From: Division of Information Technology

Virginia Tech recently conducted a pilot study on the licensed version of Copilot, the AI assistant for Microsoft 365, aiming to explore its benefits and limitations to determine if it should be made available for purchase. Study participants had the option to share feedback at the end of the study.

Key takeaways from the study:

  • 177 participants from various departments participated in the pilot, and we received 85 responses to the feedback survey at the end of the study period.
  • The overall satisfaction rating topped 80 percent, indicating that most users found the tool to be a useful addition.
  • 92 percent of participants recommended using Copilot for productivity.
  • Most users found Copilot especially valuable when working with Outlook and Word.

After reviewing these results, the university has begun to offer the licensed version of Copilot for purchase by Virginia Tech faculty and staff.
