Join Hokie Wellness for our May programs, which will focus on seasonal and life transitions like new parent preparation, eating healthy for the season, financial and end-of-life planning, and more. Be sure to check out a downloadable calendar of all programming. The new summer schedule will be uploaded the first week of May.

May 1, 1-3 p.m.: REVIVE! Opioid Overdose Emergency Response Training (In person):  Come learn more about opioids, addiction, and how to respond to an opioid overdose. You will receive an emergency response kit and the medication Naloxone (if supplies are available). This training will take place in McComas Hall, room 198. Registration is required.

May 6, 11-11:30 a.m.: Planning for Baby (Staff) (Online): Virginia Tech staff who are expecting and new parents — including fathers, non-birth, and adoptive parents — are welcome to attend this event to learn more about maternity leave, related benefits, and resources offered to new parents. Registration is required

May 7, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Unpacking Grief (In person): In this session, we will explore how grief can manifest following loss of loved ones, changes in our lives, and more. This workshop will be largely discussion-based and will be held at the North End Center, room 2470. Registration is required

May 8, 12:30-1 p.m.: Planning for Baby (Faculty) (Online):  Virginia Tech faculty who are expecting and new parents — including fathers, non-birth, and adoptive parents — are welcome to attend this event to learn more about maternity leave, related benefits, and resources offered to new parents. Registration is required.

May 13, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Healthy Nutrition for Aging (Online): Eating nutritious, nourishing foods is important across the life span. This webinar will discuss how specific macro and micro-nutrients, and eating patterns can be so helpful when navigating the physiological changes commonly associated with the aging process. Registration is required.

May 14, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Setting Financial Goals (Online): Setting financial goals is one of the best ways to prepare for financial wellness. Goals may include setting a budget and sticking to it, debt consolidation, and planning ahead to set yourself up for financial success. Registration is required.

May 16, 12-1 p.m.: Mental Health Media Hour (In person): This workshop will explore TV and film references to mental health challenges. Join us as we discuss some of them and debunk myths and stereotypes about mental health along the way. To suggest or recommend topics to include and avoid, please RSVP using this form. This event will be held at the North End Center, room 2470. Registration is required.

May 28, 12-1 p.m.: Take a Brain Break (In person): Feel free to bring your lunch for a mid-day brain break hosted by Hokie Wellness where you can make your own bookmarks with materials provided by us. This event will be at the North End Center, room 2410. Registration is required

May 28, 4-5 p.m.: What's in Season? (In person):  Join Hokie Wellness on a walk and see what's in season! We will explore different offerings at the Blacksburg Farmer's Market and discuss ways to incorporate fresh and healthy produce and goods into a healthy diet and balanced budget. The walk will begin at the North End Center lobby and end at Blacksburg Farmer's Market. Registration is required.

May 30, 12-12:45 p.m.: Life Transitions in Older Ages - Physician Series with Lewis Gale (Online): This program will explore when end-of-life planning discussions should take place and how your physician can assist to ensure you or your loved one’s wishes are respected. We will also discuss life transition resources available through the community and Virginia Tech. Registration is required.

May 31, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Parent Meet up at Huckleberry Park (In person): If you have kids who enjoy the playground with a splash pad and you would like to meet other Virginia Tech parents, this is for you. The event is no pressure; you can show up and leave when you want. Snacks will also be available. Registration is not required, but it is helpful to know who plans to come (even if those plans change). Let us know if you’re interested by filling out this form.
