As Virginia Tech’s presence continues to grow in the greater Washington, D.C., metro area, it is important to ensure our university community maintains living, learning, and working environments free from discrimination and harassment.

To support this effort, the Office for Civil Rights Compliance and Prevention Education (CRCPE) has a dedicated civil rights and education manager located in the D.C. area that serves as a regional, onsite resource and point of contact for students and employees.

While the civil rights and education manager does not provide the university’s formal response to reports of discrimination,  harassment or reasonable accommodations, they can answer questions about university anti-discrimination policies, which includes Policies 1025 and 1026, and procedures. When a student or employee in the D.C. area makes a report of discrimination or harassment, the civil rights and education manager may serve as a liaison to connect students or employees to the appropriate team or office on the Blacksburg campus.

This role also provides education and training programs to students and employees in the D.C. area on the university’s anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies.

The civil rights and education manager is available to provide services in-person or virtually by appointment, and can be reached at gennelle@vt.edu. Get more information at civilrights.vt.edu.
