Join SVPE for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month – an opportunity to listen to and honor survivors in the community. Virginia Tech’s Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education (SVPE), part of Office for Civil Rights Compliance and Prevention Education (CRCPE), is presenting several events throughout the month across campus.
This year’s theme is "Together We Act, United We Change," which highlights the importance of working together to address and prevent sexual abuse, assault, and harassment. This campaign focuses on enhancing public understanding of sexual violence, amplifying the voices of survivors, and empowering everyone to work together to promote the safety and well-being of others.
Here is a rundown of SVPE’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month events:
- SAAM Kickoff: 12-3 p.m. Tuesday, April 1: A tabling event in collaboration with the SECL-Chillfield, Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education for Survivors (CARE), SARA, Women’s Resource Center of New River Valley (WRCNRV), and Virginia Tech Police Department.
- Healing is Not Linear: Craft and Chat: 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17: A discussion-based program with embroidery in collaboration with the Pride Center. The event is open to all!
- Survivor Picnic: 12-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23: An outdoor picnic with floristry to celebrate survivorship in collaboration with United Feminist Movement and Save the Next Girl.
- Let’s Talk About…Conflict: 5-6 p.m. Thursday, April 24: A discussion-based program in collaboration with Cranwell International Center where students will embroider while discussing conflict management tools.
- Denim Day: 5:30-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 30: In honor of Denim Day, the VOICES peer educators will host a denim crafting event. This is in collaboration with the CARES program.
