K-12 inventors in the D.C. area are invited to showcase their innovative school projects or independent projects at Virginia Tech’s Academic Building One in Alexandria on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. We’re eager to see and support the innovation and inventions that regional school-aged students are working on at the Northern VA-DC Regional Expo. This is not a competition, but feedback, suggestions, and patent support will be available for all student inventors from industry professionals. 

  • When: 10 AM – 12 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2025
  • Where: Virginia Tech Academic Building One

  • No costs for inventors, teachers, schools or parents for any Invention Virginia or Invention D.C. activities.

Showcase

To participate in the Regional Expo, please register here by Sunday, March 31, 11:59 p.m.*  This allows us to prepare the right setup for inventors to showcase their projects. There will be a sign-in table at the entrance. You may also use this registration form for the State Convention (also free).

Students should arrive by 9:15 a.m. to set up their display and talk with other inventors.

How to prepare

It is sufficient for students to arrive with only technical drawings, a model, or prototype. However, if inventors are interested in entering the state competition, students are encouraged to begin developing a display board, logbook of the invention design process, and a model or prototype. We will provide opportunities for inventors to make a 4-minute video describing their work. More information on these preparations can be found in the online toolkit.
