Participants needed for a research study on AI an biomechanical exposure assessments.
The Occupational Ergonomics & Biomechanics Labs at Virginia Tech is seeking healthy adults aged 45-65 to participate in a research study investigating algorithmic biases in AI-based biomechanical exposure assessments using wearable sensors.
Why is this important?
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), such as back pain and strains, pose a significant economic burden in the U.S. Wearable sensor systems are transforming ergonomic risk assessments by providing accurate, cost-effective, and automated analyses without the need for constant human observation. This study explores how machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) enhance risk detection in workplace tasks, including manual material handling and workstation factors.
How you can help:
If you are between 45 and 65 years old and in good health (no self-reported current or recent musculoskeletal problems or injuries), we invite you to participate in this study. Additionally, please help us spread the word to others in this age group who may be interested in contributing to this important research. You will be provided an honorarium of $20/ hour. Prorated amount ($20/ hour) will be provided if withdrawn prior to completion of the study. The study will take approximately 2.5-3 hours. It will be located at University Mall, Occupational Ergonomics and Biomedichanics Labs, in Blacksburg.
