As part of National Invasive Species Awareness Week, the Invasive Species Collaborative will host an open house on Feb. 25 from 2-3 p.m. on the second floor of Newman Library, located at 560 Drillfield Drive on the Blacksburg campus, to share information about invasive insects and plants (with a focus on ornamentals) in Virginia. This event is free and open to the public.

Members of the collaborative will also provide resources for species identification and reporting. It is also an opportunity to check out our year-long invasive species exhibit and engage with collaborative affiliates and partners.

The exhibit, designed in partnership with the Virginia Tech Insect ID Lab and University Libraries, aims to educate the Virginia Tech community about invasive species – what they are, their impacts, how they can be introduced to new areas, and much more. At its core, the exhibit seeks to empower individual and collective action to better prevent and slow the spread of invasive species in the Commonwealth and beyond.

National Invasive Species Awareness Week, Feb. 24-28, is an international event to raise awareness about invasive species, the threat that they pose, and what can be done to prevent their spread.
