Join Hokie Wellness in March as we spring into wellness and be sure to check out a downloadable calendar of all programing scheduled through May.

March 4, 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Vacation Budgeting (Online): It is not too early to start thinking about a budget for your vacation. In this online seminar, gain tips and information for setting up your vacation budget so you will be ready for that trip when the time comes! Registration is required.  

March 5, 12:15-1:30 p.m.: Perimenopause: What's Happening? (Online): This will be an open, frank, and educational discussion that will cover the experience of perimenopause and provide information about when symptoms may begin, what symptoms to expect, how to manage them, and more. Registration is required.  

March 6, 12-1 p.m.: Weight Training for Life: New Exercises (In person): Rodney Gaines with the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise will begin to incorporate new exercises and weights into a routine that works for you. This is an educational class, but there will be opportunities to try out exercises. Not comfortable with weight training? This is the class for you! This class will be held in the Recreational Sports Field House. Registration is required.  

March 6, 1-2 p.m.: FSA/HSA Information Session (Online): Understand how to maximize value with your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). We will provide an overview of what benefitted Virginia Tech employees have access to, as well as how to spend your dollars set aside for your health. Registration is required.  

March 7, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Problem Gambling Prevention (Online): This session introduces problem gambling prevention. It includes a brief history of gambling laws, how youth and adult gaming can lead to later gambling, signs, and symptoms of problem gambling, and what someone can do to support someone else in need. Registration is required.  

March 11, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.: REVIVE! Opioid Overdose Emergency Response Training (In person): Learn more about opioids, addiction, and how to respond in an emergency. You will receive the opioid overdose reversal drug, Narcan (Naloxone), and an emergency response kit to take with you free of charge. This class will be held in McComas Hall, room 198. Registration is required.

March 11, 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.: Know your Numbers (Online): Knowing your risk is critical to preventing cardiovascular disease. And knowing your risk starts with knowing your numbers. This virtual program will talk about how to keep them in target range to lower your risk of heart disease and stroke. Registration is required.  

March 12 and 27, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Mental Health First Aid (Online): MHFA takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance-use by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address issues as they arise. Registration is required.  

March 13, 8:30-9 a.m.: Guided Meditations (Online): Take 30 minutes to begin your day and build your mindfulness skills at the same time. You might find the day looks different! We will end with chair yoga.   Registration is required.  

March 12, 12:15-1:30 p.m.: Menopause: Life during “the change” (Online): This open, frank, and educational discussion will cover the experience of menopause, its symptoms, how to manage them, your physical and mental health, available treatments for symptoms, and how your loved ones and colleagues can support you. Registration is required.  

March 14, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Compassionate Response to Crisis (Online): Every crisis presents its own unique challenges. In this session, we will explore how we can support individuals through de-escalation techniques, listening skills, and access to 24/7 resources, while maintaining a lens of compassion for others and ourselves. Registration is required.  

March 14, 12-1 p.m.: Take a Brain Break (In person): Join Hokie Wellness for a mid-day brain break. Bring your lunch and make a DIY craft. Materials will be provided. This class will be held at the North End Center, room 2410. Registration is required.

March 18, 12-1 p.m.: Strong Minds, Strong Bodies (Hybrid): Learn about the mind-body connection and how exercise and sports are connected to our mental health. This program will include light movement which you can adopt and adapt to your own comfort and ability. This session will be held by Zoom and in person at the North End Center, room 2410. Registration is required.  

March 19, 12:15-1:30 p.m.: Cultivating Healthy Body Image and Eating Behaviors Among Adolescents (Hybrid): Join this program given by Heather Davis with Virginia Tech's Psychology Department where she will provide a broad overview of youth eating concerns and body image distress. Attendees will learn how to spot signs of eating or body image-related problems and strategies for preventing and allaying these concerns will be discussed. This session will be held at the Inn at Virginia Tech. Registration is required.  

March 20, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: How to Find a Therapist 101 (Online): Finding a mental health professional can be complicated. We will offer useful strategies you can use to locate a provider, questions you can ask in initial consultations, and things to look out for when selecting a therapist to work with. Registration is required.  

March 25, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.: The Blood Connection Blood Drive (In person): All blood donors will receive a $40 e-gift card redeemable at various online stores including Amazon, Belk, Target, and more. Scheduling a time is preferred but walk-ins are welcome.  The Blood Connection is a non-profit community blood center that partnered with Carilion Clinic in December 2023 to be the sole provider of all their blood products.

March 26, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: DMV (In person): DMV Connect will process a wide range of transactions such as driver licenses and identification cards (Real ID and standard), title and registration, transcripts, disabled parking placards, address changes, and more. This event will be located in the North End Center. Registration is required.

March 26, 12:15-1:30 p.m.: Post-Menopause: What's Next? (Online): We will talk about what being post-menopausal means, the importance of taking care of your health, and how this time can be the beginning of something wonderful in this open, frank, and educational discussion. Registration is required.

March 28, 12-12:45 p.m.: The Intersection of Success and Health - Physician Series with Lewis Gale (Online): In this session we will explore the effect of poor goal planning on our health and how to set health goals with your medical provider. We will also discuss what it means to still be healthy while also taking long-term medication. Registration is required.
