Seeking faculty mentors for MAOP summer research internship

From: Multicultural Academic Opportunities Program

The Multicultural Academic Opportunities Program (MAOP) is currently seeking faculty mentors as we prepare for the 32nd Annual Undergraduate Summer Research Internship Program. This year’s program is set for May 27, 2025 - July 31, 2025. Faculty in various colleges and departments have graciously mentored summer interns for many years.

This is a 10-week internship, which provides underrepresented/underserved students from across the United States and Virginia Tech an opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in their chosen discipline here at Virginia Tech. In fact, several of the students that participated in the program have chosen VT for graduate school.

The students that participate in the internship receive the following benefits:

  • $3,000 stipend
  • On-campus housing
  • Full meal plan
  • Graduate/professional school preparation
  • Professional development workshops
  • Social activities and events throughout the 10-week program.

The mentors that participate in the internship receive the following benefits:

  • Your mentee will spend 30/hours per week in your lab and/or getting hand-on research experience
  • You have the opportunity to mentor some of the brightest students in the country
  • All logistics of the program are handled by MAOP, you only need to focus on the research experience for the students
  • You receive reliable/consistent personnel for 10 weeks in the summer which will allow you to continue the great work you are doing
