Early childhood education lunch and learn series

Parenting strategies for supporting children's social-emotional and academic well-being

From: Early Childhood Education Initiatives

The Early Childhood Education Initiatives team is partnering with the Child Study Center at Virginia Tech to offer a lunch and learn series workshop series with four session starting September and ending in March.

The series will focus on parenting strategies to support children's social-emotional and academic well-being. These strategies are helpful for all families and may be particularly helpful for children and adolescents diagnosed with a disability or mental health disorder such as ADHD, anxiety, or a learning disability.

The first session, titled “Strategies to Get Your Child's Schoolwork on Track,” will be held Sept. 19, noon to 1 p.m., by Zoom and will be led by Sam Kempker-Margherio, a licensed clinical psychologist and assistant professor in Virginia Tech’s Department of Psychology and Child Study Center. Registration is required to attend.

This session will cover information about the development of organization, time management, and planning skills, and teach specific strategies that can be implemented with children that may be struggling in these areas.

Mark your calendar for future sessions in this series, which will be held Nov. 7; Jan. 23, 2025; and March 7, 2025. All sessions will be held by Zoom. Additional information about the sessions, including registrations links, will be shared in the Virginia Tech News Daily Email and on the Caregiving site programs page.
