Hokies Helping Hokies through Peer-to-Peer Onboarding Program
From: Human Resources
As Virginia Tech welcomes new administrative and professional (A/P) faculty, a unique program is helping them feel right at home. The peer-to-peer onboarding program, is bridging the gap between campus newcomers and seasoned Hokies.
The program works by pairing new employees with experienced “culture champions,” volunteers that work with newcomers to introduce the opportunities they have to learn, grow, and integrate themselves into university life.
The program offers several key benefits to participants:
- Personalized guidance from experienced Virginia Tech professionals.
- Inside knowledge on navigating university systems and culture.
- Expanded networking opportunities across departments.
- Accelerated professional development and career growth.
- Enhanced work satisfaction and sense of belonging.
New A/P faculty employees can join the program within the first three months of their employment at Virginia Tech. This timely integration ensures that newcomers can benefit from the program during their crucial initial adjustment period.
The program addresses several key areas, including regular culture champion-newcomer meetings, career exploration and guidance, university culture acclimation, professional development opportunities, and personalized growth plans. Participants are encouraged to meet monthly to establish a consistent rapport and allow for in-depth discussions on various aspects of university life and career development.
The connections made through this program often last well beyond the initial onboarding period. Newcomers become more confident, engaged, and satisfied in their roles.
If you are a new A/P faculty employee interested in participating in the peer-to-peer onboarding program, or if you are an experienced employee eager to share your knowledge and passion by becoming a Culture Champion, please contact Emma Leveau at emmal23@vt.edu to learn more and/or sign up.
