Schools will be back in session this month, bringing excitement and an increase in activities and responsibilities. Whether you have kids, work with students, support new faculty, or feel the pressures that come with a new semester, we have programs to support you.

Aug. 6, 11-11:45 a.m.: Preventing Hot Car Deaths (online): In over half of hot car deaths, the person responsible for the death unknowingly left the child in the vehicle. In most cases this happens to loving and protective parents. Learn more about this danger and how to keep it from happening to you.  Registration is required.

Aug. 7, 12:15-12:45 p.m.: Building Your Emergency Fund (online): We’ve all experienced unexpected financial emergencies, and these unplanned expenses often feel like they hit at the worst times. Setting up a dedicated savings or emergency fund is one essential way to protect yourself. Learn how in this program. Registration is required.  

Aug. 13, 3-3:45 p.m.: Mindfulness, Meditation, and Movement (online): Mindfulness, meditation, and movement are so important to our daily well-being. Take a break from your day to learn more about the importance of mindfulness, practice meditations, and participate in chair yoga from the comfort of your office. Registration is required.

Seven Types of Rest (hybrid): Did you know that there are numerous ways to incorporate rest into our lives? Join us as we explore the seven types of rest and identify ways we can strengthen restorative practices to show up as our best authentic selves.  

Aug. 15, 1-1:45 p.m.: Getting Your Dose of Vitamin G: How Gratitude Improves Well-being (hybrid): Learn about strategies to cultivate gratitude in ways that feel accessible and nourishing. Join in person at the North End Center, room 2470, or via Zoom. Registration is required.

Aug. 16, 12-1 p.m.: Take a Brain Break: Join Hokie Wellness for our Brain Break! Bring your lunch and make a DIY craft. Materials will be provided. The session will be held at the North End Center, room 2410. Registration is required.

Aug. 21, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Mental Health First Aid (online): Take the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address issues as they arise. Registration is required.

Aug. 23, 12-1 p.m.: Mindful Journaling (online): Intentional and mindful reflection offers an opportunity to reconnect with your sense of purpose by working through a collection of guided journaling prompts. Registration is required.

Aug. 29, 12:15-1 p.m.: Liven Up Your Lunchbox (hybrid): Need help with packing your lunch? Join Hokie Wellness for this virtual program that will address the benefits of a healthy lunch and why it matters; four strategies for success; and helpful products and resources. Registration is required.
