2024 faculty and staff salary and merit increases

From: Human Resources and the Provost Office

With the approval of the Commonwealth of Virginia budget and following the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors' approval of the process, a three percent merit increase will be implemented to recognize the contributions of our valued employees. With these approvals:

  • Calendar year faculty and university and classified staff earned increases will be effective June 10, 2024. Employees will see any increase in their July 1, 2024, paycheck.
  • Academic year faculty earned increases will be effective Aug. 10, 2024, and employees will see any increase in their Aug. 30, 2024, paycheck.

To be eligible to receive merit:

  • T&R faculty must have been hired by Dec. 10, 2023, to be eligible, and increases are merit-based as evaluated by Faculty Activity Reports (FARs) and/or other relevant performance-related information.
  • A/P faculty must have been hired by March 10, 2024, to be eligible, and increases are merit-based and evaluated by information included in FARs.
  • University staff must have been hired by March 10, 2024, and have at least a “meets” performance rating on their most recent evaluation. University staff merit increases were based upon a review of performance evaluations.
  • Eligible classified staff who have at least a “meets” performance rating on their most recent evaluation received a base salary increase of three percent as these positions are governed by the state.

Employees receiving an increase will be notified by your department. See the table below for additional information on how Virginia Tech’s compensation program will be implemented.
