Survey opportunity: Help develop type 2 diabetes resources for employees

From:  Hokie Wellness

A graduate student and intern in Virginia Tech’s Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise Nutrition and Dietetics program is partnering with Hokie Wellness on a project about Type 2 diabetes. The project goal is to develop campus resources and a prevention and/or management program for employees.

The first step in the project is completing a survey to determine employee needs about Type 2 diabetes education and a prevention and/or management program. Results of the survey will give insight into the program’s design, the topics to be covered, and its mode of delivery. We encourage all employees to take the short survey, which may be completed in about five minutes.

Type 2 diabetes occurs when there is a problem with the way the body regulates and uses sugar as fuel. Ultimately, high blood sugar levels can lead to disorders of the cardiovascular, nervous, and immune systems. There is no cure for Type 2 diabetes; however, losing weight, eating well, and exercising can help manage the disease. If lifestyle changes are not adequate in controlling blood sugar, diabetes medications or insulin therapy may be recommended.*
