Volunteers, aged 50 years and older, needed for weight management research study

From: Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise

Adults aged 50+ with a BMI at or above 25 are needed for a 15-month study (IRB Protocol # 22-624) that includes a 12-week weight loss phase and a 12-month follow-up phase. This includes one-on-one dietary and physical activity counseling with weekly follow-up sessions in our lab for 12 weeks. After the weight loss phase, participants will be instructed in a healthy lifestyle program with diet and physical activity goals to support weight loss maintenance for 12 months. Follow-up counseling to support maintenance will be provided on a monthly basis virtually.

The study purpose is to determine if specific fluid intake recommendations help individuals lose weight, and maintain lost weight over time.

Laboratory testing will include the following: body weight and composition, urine collections, meal tests of appetite sensations and blood appetite hormones, diet and physical activity habits, and brain function.

This study will take ~32 hours of time over 18 in-person and 10 virtual study sessions, in 15 months.
