Burruss Hall tower and main entrance improvements to occur

From: The Division of Campus Planning, Infrastructure, and Facilities

Beginning Monday, May 13, improvements to Burruss Hall’s tower and main entrance – including exterior restoration and roof and window replacements – will occur.

During this time, building occupants may experience elevated levels of noise, however, disruptive levels will be limited to off-peak hours. Occupants may also notice periodic crane operations.

The building’s carillons (chimes) will not be available during the improvement work. Additionally, impacts to the building’s non-essential exterior lighting may be possible. The project will also affect the Burruss Hall webcam and may create instances when the camera is offline.

Scaffolding and construction activities will be in place throughout the improvement process, which at this time is anticipated for completion in December 2024.

Pedestrian route modifications:

The following pedestrian route modifications will be in place to accommodate scaffolding, equipment laydown, and ensure pedestrian safety:

May 13 - 26:

To accommodate installation of scaffolding and overhead protection on Burruss Hall, a portion of the building’s front and east sidewalk (Holden Hall side), front steps, as well as the main entrance will be closed to pedestrians from approximately Monday, May 13 - Sunday, May 26.

The front sidewalk and steps, along with Burruss Hall’s main entrance, will be reopened to pedestrians following the scaffolding installation.

May 27 - summer break duration

To ensure pedestrian safety and accommodate equipment laydown, a limited portion of the east sidewalk (Holden Hall side) of Burruss Hall will continue to be closed to pedestrians throughout the summer break.

The area marked in orange will be closed to pedestrians throughout the duration of the summer break.

Pedestrians may also utilize the Interactive Campus Map to assist with navigation.

As the project continues, additional impacts to the university community will be provided via Virginia Tech News.
