Graduate Life Center protest: Claiming abandoned and lost items

From Student Affairs:

During the recent events at the Graduate Life Center, some Virginia Tech students and community members left behind personal belongings.

Items that were abandoned or lost will be available to be claimed in the Squires Student Center in room Commonwealth A on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday, April 30 from Noon to 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 2 from Noon to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For health and safety reasons, some items will be disposed or destroyed after Friday, May 3 by 6 p.m. if they go unclaimed. Those items include per the SECL Lost and Found Policy:

  • Prescription medication
  • Toiletries or powders
  • Wet or soiled clothing, linens, pillows, undergarments, etc.
  • Anything received that could cause potential harm or health risk to SECL employees or property

If you were part of the gathering or were in the vicinity, please follow these steps to reclaim your items:

  • Valid ID Identification: When claiming an item, bring valid photo identification.
  • A photo of the missing item or item (if available) or be ready to provide a brief description of the lost item, including any unique features or markings.

Items that are not claimed by Friday, May 3 by 6 p.m., will remain logged through Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) for 120 days and items can be claimed at the Squires Student Information Desk. After 120 days, items will be sent to surplus or disposed of according to the SECL Lost and Found Policy and accordance with university practice.
