New READ course launches, replaces former Compliance Training module

From: Office for Equity and Accessibility

All Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and non-student wage employees are required to complete training every two years that covers key information about the university’s anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies, federal civil rights laws, complaint procedures, and employee reporting responsibilities. All newly hired Virginia Tech employees are required to complete this training within 90 days of their start date.

The Office for Equity and Accessibility (OEA) is launching a new on-demand, self-paced, highly interactive module covering these important policies, laws, procedures, and expectations under a new name: "READ: Respect, Equity, and Anti-discrimination Training."

The new module takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and is available now through the PageUp LMS. The training provides a two-way experience for users where they complete progressive quizzes throughout the training, acknowledge policies, can comment on questions, and view responses from other users. Through this more interactive module, employees learn important information and expectations that support the university’s Principles of Community.

The former Compliance Training module has been retired. Going forward, all new employees and employees whose two-year training certification has expired will take the new online course. Live, instructor-led training will continue to be offered as well. Employees who are currently in compliance with the training requirement will not need to take the new training until their certification expires.

Employees may enroll for either the online or in-person course through the LMS.

For questions about the training, contact OEA at oeatraining@vt.edu.
