What's in your water? Well and spring water testing available in May

Do you have a well or spring in Montgomery County? Do you wonder if your water is safe to drink? 

The Virginia Household Water Quality Program offers affordable water testing and education to improve the water quality and health of Virginians who rely on wells and springs.  

Testing includes: bacteria (total coliform and E. coli counts/MPN), nitrate, sulfate, iron, manganese, lead, copper, arsenic, fluoride, pH, total dissolved solids, hardness, sodium, barium, chromium, cadmium, uranium, selenium, aluminum, zinc, silver, chloride, nickel, strontium, cobalt, vanadium, molybdenum, titanium, tin, calcium, magnesium, silicon, potassium and phosphorus.

Pick up sample kit (pick one date/location) 

  • May 20, 4-6 p.m. – HABB1 Building – 1230 Washington St. Virginia Tech OR
  • May 20, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. – Montgomery County Government Center, Suite 1G (755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg)  

Collect samples in the morning on Wednesday, May 22, and drop off samples between 7-10 a.m.

  • HABB1 Building – (Washington St. side) Virginia Tech OR
  • Montgomery County Government Center, Suite 1G (755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg) 

Results will be mailed or emailed to you after June 24 with a presentation link. We are available to answer your questions and help you understand your results!

How much does it cost? $70 per sample kit. *$60 subsidies are available for residents in Montgomery County with funding from Virginia Environmental Endowment Community Conservation Program. If you are interested in the subsidy, please contact us for a separate registration link.
