Seeking Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., area drivers for a research study

The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) is looking for Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., area drivers to participate in a research study that includes driving their own vehicles equipped with modern technologies.

To qualify, drivers must operate one of the vehicles below with newer features, such as lane centering and adaptive cruise control (ACC). IRB #22-908

The acceptable vehicles by make, model, and year include:

  • Ford Mach-E (2021 or newer)
  • Subaru Outback (2023 or newer)
  • Kia Sportage (2023 or newer)
  • Toyota Corolla Cross (2023 or newer)
  • Honda CR-V (2023 or newer)
  • Tesla Model 3 with FSD (2021 or newer)

The “Daisy” naturalistic driving study is focused on observing how people drive and interact with their driver support systems, or DSS, such as adaptive cruise and lane centering.

Individuals selected to participate will have a data collection system temporarily installed in their vehicle for the duration of their enrollment. Initial enrollment is for six months and participants may be offered an option to extend their enrollment after that. They may also unenroll from participation at any time and all participant data will be kept strictly confidential.

The total compensation for completing all study tasks during the intital six months is $1,100. Participants will receive a Mastercard and VTTI will add funds to that card during the study.
