Seeking program support specialist GA for the Office of Undergraduate Research

A full (stipend + tuition) graduate assistantship for a Program Support Specialist is available starting fall 2024 in the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), a unit in the Office of Undergraduate Education, within Undergraduate Academic Affairs. This position will start in August 2024 and last through May 2025; summer or further opportunities possible. The graduate assistant will join a small team that serves the entire VT community, to contribute to its outreach and engagement activities. We seek someone interested and/or experienced in effectively communicating in written and oral formats, delivering engaging presentations, mentoring undergraduates, and managing data. The graduate assistant will work closely with OUR personnel and the OUR student Ambassadors. GA pay step 14.

Duties:

  • Deliver informational presentations about undergraduate research and the OUR to a variety of audiences.
  • Compile and disseminate information and opportunities to the undergraduate research community through regular newsletters: a weekly newsletter for students and a monthly newsletter for faculty.
  • Represent the office at campuswide events and activities.
  • Track student attendance at events.
  • Collaborate with OUR research ambassadors at presentations and events.
  • Evaluate student submissions as part of the Undergraduate Research Excellence Program.
  • Support daily operations of the OUR as needed.

Required qualifications:

  • Familiarity with undergraduate research practices
  • Experience delivering presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Professional skills including reliability, honesty, courtesy, and integrity

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior undergraduate research experience
  • Prior experience composing news items or contributing to a newsletter, blog, or other public outlet.
  • Experience tracking and managing participant and engagement data.

Work hours and location:

  • 20 hours per week to be arranged with supervisor and largely dependent on timing of presentations
  • Shared office space in Gilbert Place
