Accessibility Awareness Week spotlight: Virginia Tech Accessibility Portal
From: Office for Equity and Accessibility
Virginia Tech strives to ensure equal access and opportunity and to maintain a barrier-free environment. The Virginia Tech Accessibility Portal contains information and resources to assist those with disabilities and to address physical and digital barriers for students, faculty, staff, and university visitors. The portal links to the universal campus access map and includes the report a barrier system.
The universal campus access map shows the most accessible routes on campus, including currently accessible parking spaces, accessible building entrances, and elevator/wheelchair lifts. To access these resources, select “Accessibility” from the Layers menu.
The online system to report a barrier is available for physical and digital barriers. Submitted information is shared with the people required to resolve the reported issue. Solutions to verified barriers are facilitated as quickly as possible.
Virginia Tech Accessibility Awareness Week is modeled after Global Accessibility Awareness Day. The goal of this week is to provide learning opportunities and resources that engage the campus community to think, discuss, learn, and take action regarding digital and physical accessibility. The week is sponsored by the Office for Equity and Accessibility, Campus Accessibility Working Group, and Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies.
